Wartburg takes pair from Coe

WAVERLY - Wartburg swept a pair of Iowa Conference baseball games from Coe Saturday, winning 4-0 and 6-4 before 275 fans at Hertel Field.

Senior Ben Rettenmeier, a former Kirkwood and Cedar Rapids Jefferson player, pitched his fifth complete game of the year for Wartburg, striking out seven to earn the win in the opener.

Jackson Litterer had two hits and drove in two runs for the winners.

Craig Konrardy had a double for Coe. Connor Alberhasky struck out 11 in six innings for Coe. He allowed six hits and one earned run.

In the second game, Wartburg (8-6, 2-0) built a 5-0 lead before Coe (4-7, 1-3 IIAC) rallied with four in the eighth. AJ Reuter drove home a pair of runs with a single and former Linn-Mar standout Michael Redmond also singled home a run.

Konrardy had three hits, including a double for Coe. Starter Jack Hoffmann took the loss, giving up five runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The teams play another doubleheader Sunday in Waverly, beginning at 1 p.m.
