Coe splits with Simpson on chilly day

INDIANOLA - AJ Reuter helped the Coe baseball team defeat Simpson with his arm and his bat Sunday afternoon.

Reuter drove in two runs and pitched six strong innings as the Kohawks trimmed Simpson, 3-1, in the second game of an Iowa Conference doubleheader on a 30-degree day in Indianola.

Reuter allowed five hits and one run with four strikeouts. Jack Hoffmann pitched three shutout innings for the save for Coe.

Simpson won the first game, 2-1. Reuter went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Kohawks. Connor Alberhasky was the hard-luck loser for Coe, allowing only one earned run on four hits in seven innings.

Coe and Simpson were scheduled to play two doubleheaders in Cedar Rapids this weekend, but the field at Daniels Park was not in playable condition.

They salvaged the weekend by moving one of the twinbills to Simpson.

Coe has a 4-5 overall mark and 1-1 record in the conference. Simpson is 7-4 overall and 1-1.
