Klostermann wins Metro Spotlight Award

Beau Klostermann of Linn-Mar is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Klostermann, a 6-foot-5 senior, is a key member of the Linn-Mar boys basketball team again this season and he's been one of the hottest players in the state the past two weeks.

Klostermann has averaged 23.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in his last four games and has been nearly unstoppable from the field. He's made 71.4 percent of his shots from the field during that stretch (35 of 49), 66.7 percent of his 3-pointers (14 of 21) and all nine of his free throws.

Klostermann poured in 26 points against Prairie on Feb. 12 to begin the hot streak, then had 16 points against Ankeny Centennial, 23 points against Waterloo East and 28 against Waterloo West.

Klostermann is averaging 13.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals for the Lions this season. He's enjoyed games with seven assists, four steals and three blocked shots.

Klostermann is Linn-Mar's starting center, but he has good perimeter skills with his outside shooting, ballhandling and ability to drive to the basket. He has talked to the University of Northern Iowa coaches about joining the squad as a preferred walk-on.

The 10th-ranked Lions have won seven straight games and will take a 16-5 record into the Class 4A substate tournament this week. The Lions will host the substate semifinals Saturday night.
