Xavier - Girls Track

Indians, Saints win 7 titles

The Marion and Xavier boys track teams combined to capture seven events at the Class 3A state qualifier at Thomas Park Thursday.

Jordan Garthwaite won the 400 meter dash, Colton Forster claimed the 3200 meter run and Devin Quinn took the high jump as the Marion Indians placed third in the team standings. The Indians also won the 4x800 meter relay with Jacob Manderscheid, Austin Yirkovsky, Garthwaite and Trevor Hardman.

Nick Stark was a double-winner for Xavier in the 100 meter dash and long jump as the Saints placed fourth in the team standings. Xavier also claimed the 4x400 relay with Josh Gerke, Joe Welch, Evan Gradoville and Noah Clasen.

Xavier - Girls Track

Jenks wins 3 titles at Valley meet

Linn-Mar sophomore Stephanie Jenks captured the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs by comfortable margins at the MVC Valley Division girls track meet at Kingston Stadium Thursday.

Jenks won the 800 by more than 11 seconds, the 1500 by more than 13 seconds and the 3000 by more than 24 seconds.

Wahlert edged Linn-Mar for the team title, 154-127.5.

Rachel Perry of Linn-Mar sped to victory in the 400 in 58.93 seconds. The Lions also won the 4x800 relay with Maddie Saville, Ally Hicks, Hanna Saville and Morgan Garcia.

Prairie finished fourth in the team standings. Kenzie Soeken won the high jump, Halle Lueck took the long jump and the Hawks won the sprint medley with Hailee Montgomery, Alexa Martin, Soeken and Hannah Grimm.

Washington won two events and finished in fifth place. Kadejah Sanders took the 100 meter dash and Amara Taylor claimed the 400 hurdles.

Xavier - Girls Track

Soeken, Morgan place 2nd at ISU meet

AMES - Kenzie Soeken of Cedar Rapids Prairie and Halley Morgan of Linn-Mar placed second at the Iowa State indoor girls track meet Monday in Ames.

Soeken tied for second in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches. Morgan finished second in the 60-meter dash in 7.86 seconds.

Linn-Mar placed second in the 4x400 relay (4:13.59) and the 800 sprintmedley (1:55.85).

Prairie finished fourth in the 4x100 relay (53.12).

Molly Breitbach of Xavier placed fifth in the 60 in 8.27 seconds. The Saints finished fifth in the 4x100 relay (53.24).

Jurgens wins 400 at Bettendorf meet

BETTENDORF - Carlie Jurgens of Xavier High School won the 400 meter dash for the Xavier Saints at the Bettendorf ABC Invitational track meet Thursday.

The Saints finished eighth and last in the team standings.

Xavier - Girls Track

Foreman, Gorman lead all-Metro track team

Brooke Foreman and Shannon Gorman of Cedar Rapids Washington High School have been named to the all-Metro girls track team in two individual events apiece.

Foreman topped the all-Metro selections in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. Gorman led the honor squad in the 1500 meter run and 3000 meter run.

Bill Calloway of Jefferson was named the Metro Coach of the Year.

The all-Metro teams were selected by the coaches.
