Cougars fall to Prairie in OT

It was a tale of two games in one Tuesday in Mississippi Valley Conference action at Prairie, with the Hawks coming away with a 55-50 victory over Kennedy in overtime.

In the first half, Prairie seemed the more intense team and its halfcourt defense limited Kennedy to only three field goals and 10 points. The Hawks led at the break, 23-10.

“We just didn’t come out ready to play in the first half. They were playing with intensity and we were not," Kennedy Coach Dennis Roloff said. “We just don’t seem to play four quarters."

Cougars rout J-Hawks

The night started slow for both Kennedy and Jefferson.  It didn't stay that way long for the Cougars, who heated up and took it to the visiting J-Hawks in a 61-38 victory Friday night at Kennedy.

Jefferson (4-8, 4-6) and Kennedy (5-7, 5-5) both came in to the game looking to get back to .500 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

It looked like it would be a long night for both teams as they both shot poorly in the first quarter. The J-Hawks shot just 27 percent, the Cougars shot 31 percent. The score was only 3-2 in favor of Jefferson with two minutes left in the quarter. Both teams heated up and the quarter ended with Kennedy leading 12-11.

Rebounds sink Cougars in loss to Waukee

Despite a quick start, two first half cold-shooting spells sunk the Kennedy girls Saturday against the visiting 10th-ranked Waukee Warriors.

But both coaches agreed it was rebounding that really killed the Cougars in their 63-47 non-conference loss to one of the perpetual powerhouses of the strong Central Iowa Metropolitan League.

Waukee dominated on the boards 39-26, but 17 of them came on the offensive end and led to put-back baskets.
