Brady Anderson wins Metro Spotlight Award

Linn-Mar senior Brady Anderson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Anderson, one of the top tennis players in the state, cruised to the Class 2A title in singles last year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Charlie Humes of Pleasant Valley.

Anderson would have been one of the favorites for the state singles title again this year, but he's elected to play in the state doubles tournament with Trevor McCann for the Lions. Anderson and McCann won a district title in doubles this past Thursday and qualified for the state meet May 30-31 at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.

Anderson plans to continue his tennis career at Coe College, which won the Iowa Conference title this year and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Anderson eyes state doubles title

Linn-Mar senior Brady Anderson will not win the Class 2A state singles title again this year, but it's not because anyone beat him at the district meet Thursday.

Anderson hopes to double his fun this year by playing for the state doubles title with his buddy Trevor McCann, rather than trying to defend his singles crown.

They got off to a good start Thursday by winning the district title at Clinton with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Michael Porubcin and Bryce Brien of Bettendorf in the finals.

Tennis players have to choose what they want to do in the postseason - singles or doubles - because they are not allowed to do both, according to IHSAA rules. Anderson and McCann have been friends since they were little kids, hanging around the courts at the Cedar Rapids Country Club, and they make a formidable pair.

Lions top Warriors in boys tennis

Brady Anderson, Tim Paulsen, Trevor McCann, Kyle Brendes and Shane Skvor won their singles matches Tuesday as the Linn-Mar Lions clipped Washington, 6-3, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis match between Metro powers at Washington.

Anderson topped Jackson Hoyt at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Linn-Mar netters roll by Saints

Brady Anderson, Tim Paulson, Trevor McCann, Ben Meyers, Kyle Brendes and Shane Skvor won their singles matches in straight sets Thursday as Linn-Mar topped Xavier, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Linn-Mar.

Anderson defeated Kyle D'mello, 6-0, 6-1, at No.1 singles.
