McCrary shines as Prairie tops Xavier

Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Courteney McCrary was a one-girl wrecking crew in the second half and her teammates did a nice job picking up after her Tuesday night on their home floor as the Hawks cleaned conference co-leader Xavier, 54-47.

McCrary, a rock-solid 5-foot-9 senior prone to foul trouble, knocked down seven of eight shot attempts after halftime on the way to a game-high 21 points.

While she was scoring from all angles, Prairie (11-5, 7-2 MVC) built a one-point lead into a 16-point bulge with 5:30 to go.

Prairie girls blitz Bettendorf

Prairie built a 16-point lead by halftime and trounced Bettendorf, 59-35, Saturday in a nonconference girls basketball game at Prairie.

The Hawks (10-5) were led in scoring by Cyerra Hutchins and Courteney McCrary, who scored 11 points apiece. Olivia Usher added 10 points.

Prairie led 37-21 at halftime.

Prairie boys thwarted by SE Polk

PLEASANT HILL - Michael Mims scored 12 points for Prairie but a slow start by the Hawks resulted in a 62-51 loss to Southeast Polk in a nonconference boys basketball game Saturday night.

Demetrius Harper, Jace Hanna and Thomas Eilers added nine points apiece for Prairie (4-9).

Southeast Polk built a 28-14 halftime lead. Prairie puled within 40-34 by the end of the third quarter.

Hawks stick 4 foes at Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY - Second-ranked Prairie rolled to four straight wins Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Invitational dual meet wrestling tournament.

The second-ranked Hawks blasted Moline, Ill. (67-6), Pleasant Valley (48-24), Zion-Benton, Ill. (60-15), and another Pleasant Valley squad (77-3).

Twelve Prairie wrestlers combined for 28 total pins.

Eilers scores 21 in Prairie boys loss

WATERLOO — Carderrius Smith drained two free throws with seven seconds left to ice Waterloo West's 72-68 win over Prairie Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game.

Smith led the Wahawks (7-4, 4-3) with 23 points.

Thomas Eilers scored 21 points to lead Prairie (4-8, 3-5). Jace Hanna added 19 and Tyler Mougin had 10.
