Coe swimmers place 5th in 3 events

ELSAH, Ill. - The Coe College swimming and diving team collected three fifth-place showings on the first day of the Liberal Arts Championships Thursday.

Andi Queisner placed fifth in the 50 freestyle, Kendallyn Recker finished fifth in women's 3-meter diving and Daniel Bradley was fifth in men's 3-meter diving.

The Kohawks placed sixth in the women's 200 freestyle relay with Laura Finneseth, Katy Appler, Lindsay Meade and Quiesner.

Coe men snap skid behind Wirth's 30

DECORAH - Andrew Wirth tied the Coe record with eight 3-pointers and scored 30 points to lead Coe to a 75-61 win over Luther on Wednesday in Iowa Conference men's basketball.

Coe (10-12, 2-9) snapped an eight-game losing skid.

Wirth tied the school mark for 3-pointers held by three others. The last to do it was Josh Stanek in 2002.

Wirth also had the first 30-point game for a Coe player since Kyle Kuenstling scored 32 against Washington, Mo., in December of 2007.

Hansche rains in 8 treys in Coe win

DECORAH - Freshman Mickey Hansche hit a school record eight 3-pointers as Coe beat Luther, 76-72, in overtime Wednesday night. It was the 14th-straight win over the Norse for the Kohawk women.

Megan Hayes added 19 points and Hannah Breitbach had 12 for Coe (13-9, 8-3 Iowa Conference).

Allie Wirth tied her career high with 11 rebounds and she also had eight of Coe's 27 assists. Brooke Wheelwright had seven assists in 14 minutes.

Hansche's final 3-pointer broke a 68-68 tie 44 seconds into overtime and put the Kohawks ahead to stay.

Bybee excels in pole vault at Coe

Sophomore Laura Bybee knows more about balancing than the average student at Coe College.

Bybee started pole vaulting when she was a freshman at Pecatonica High School in Pecatonica, Ill., and now is on the women’s track and field team at Coe, where she has set records in her favorite event.

“I started out in trampoline and tumbling and they always say that people who are in gymnastics are going to be good at it,” she said.

Coe women clinch loop tourney berth

Hannah Breitbach scored 14 points to lead a balanced Coe attack and the Kohawks beat Central, 62-47, Saturday in Iowa Conference women's basketball at Eby Fieldhouse.

The win clinched a berth for Coe in the Iowa Conference tournament later this month.

The Kohawks (12-9, 7-3) have won six of their last seven games.
