Kohawks fall short at Dubuque, 71-65

DUBUQUE - The Coe men's basketball team gave the No.1 club in the Iowa Conference a good game Saturday before falling short in the final seconds.

Dubuque trimmed the Kohawks, 71-65, before 575 fans at the Stoltz Center.

Coe took a 45-44 lead with 12:50 left on a 3-pointer by Jacob Timm, but Dubuque scored seven straight points for a 51-45 advantage.

 

The Kohawks pulled within 62-60 on a 3-pointer by Andrew Wirth with 1:40 left and got within 65-63 on a 3-pointer by Matt Daoust with 30 seconds remaining, but the Spartans pulled away again.

The Kohawks (9-10, 1-7) lost for the sixth time in a row. Dubuque raised its records to 18-1 and 7-1.

Gage Heffernan, who played at Kirkwood last year, led Dubuque with 24 points and Andre Norris added 19.

Wirth paced Coe with 17 points and nine assists. Christian Fahey had 14 points.
