Kohawks split games with Rockford

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Thomas Gandolfi scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning Saturday to give Coe the go-ahead run in a 3-2 victory over Rockford in the first game of a doubleheader in Winter Haven, Fla.

Rockford won the second game, 8-1.

The first game was tied 2-2 when Gandolfi drew a walk with one out in the top of the ninth. Jack Hoffmann hit a pinch-hit double, putting runners at second and third. Ben Larison was given an intentional walk, loading the bases with one out.

Gandolfi scored on the wild pitch to put the Kohawks in the lead.

Rockford loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Jake Tickle worked out of danger for the save. Connor Alberhasky pitched the first seven innings for the Kohawks and allowed two runs. Michael Golinski pitched 1.1 innings in relief and got the victory.

AJ Reuter and Jory Heckenberg had two hits in the first game. Larison went 3-for-3 in the second game. Cole Tomlinson and Heckenberg had two hits in Game 2.

The split left Coe with a 3-4 record.
