Kennedy girls’ basketball: Rebuild or reload?

Poor Kennedy.

Jade Rogers graduated and joined the Iowa Hawkeyes. The four other girls who started most of the games last year graduated, too, leaving Coach Dennis Roloff with a massive rebuilding job after the Cougars went 21-3 and reached the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament.

Right? Not so fast, my friend.

The Cougars think they might sneak up on people this season.

Strait’s shooting leads Cougars

DUBUQUE — Courtney Strait poured in 26 points Tuesday night (Dec. 14) as Kennedy topped Dubuque Senior, 65-53, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Dubuque.

The Cougars outscored Senior, 36-25, in the second half after leading by only one point at intermission.

Olivia Meier contributed 12 points for Kennedy and Kaylese Johnson added 11.

Meier scores 12, Cougars beaten by Saints

Alex Saxen poured in 22 points Friday night (Dec. 10) as 10th-ranked Xavier clipped Kennedy, 54-39, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

Emily Walvoord and Katlyn Andersen added nine points apiece as the Saints remained undefeated at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Olivia Meier led Kennedy (2-3, 2-2) with 12 points.

Quick start sends Spartans past Cougars

PLEASANT VALLEY — Pleasant Valley bolted to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and the Class 4A No. 5 Spartans rolled past Kennedy, 60-42, Saturday (Dec. 4) in a nonconference game.

Lindsey Jipp scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to lead Pleasant Valley (4-0).
