Overdue Goodell delivers for J-Hawks

After going hitless in his first five plate appearances Wednesday night, Jefferson senior Austin Goodell said he was due.

"Oh, my, yes," Goodell said.

Goodell delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning that lifted Jefferson past Solon, 10-9, in a non-conference baseball game at Jefferson.

J-Hawks whip Warriors twice

Freshman Maddie Hansen had four hits and drove in four runs and No. 7 Jefferson whipped Washington, 15-0 and 8-1, Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader at Franklin Field.

Kailey Drake had three hits and drove in five runs, and Carson Burgart had three hits and four RBIs for the J-Hawks (25-3, 17-1).

Hannah Petersen limited the Warriors (2-23, 1-17) to two hits in the three-inning opener. Brooke Stauffer tossed a three-hitter in the nightcap.

J-Hawks broom off No. 7 Iowa City West

IOWA CITY -- Dylan Jellison threw four pitches Monday night for the Jefferson baseball team.

He got three outs, two saves and protected one huge sweep for the J-Hawks.

Jefferson beat No. 7 Iowa City West, 8-7 and 6-4, in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at West.

Pete-cher perfect

DES MOINES -- Hannah Petersen fired a perfect game with 16 strikeouts to lead Jefferson past Iowa City Regina, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Jack North softball tournament.

Jefferson's Rachel Sedlacek led off the game with a home run for the third time in the last four games and finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Kenna Fry added two RBIs.

Jefferson improved to 23-3. The J-Hawks' game against Wilton was rained out.

 

J-Hawks batter Highland in softball

DES MOINES -- Rachel Sedlacek and Kailey Drake belted home runs to back the three-hit pitching of Brooke Stauffer and No. 7 Jefferson blanked Riverside Highland, 7-0, Friday afternoon in the Jack North softball classic at Hoover High School.

The J-Hawks' game against Hoover on Friday night was rained out.

Jefferson (22-3) continued its power surge that started Thursday night when the J-Hawks belted six home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Linn-Mar.

Rachel Sedlacek led off the game with a home run. Drake added a three-run shot.

Stauffer did not walk a batter and struck out 11.

   

J-Hawks sweep Wahlert in baseball

DUBUQUE -- Jefferson broke out the bats in the opener, then played some clutch defense in the nightcap and swept a baseball doubleheader from Dubuque Wahlert on Friday at Petrakis Park.

The J-Hawks thumped Wahlert, 14-7, in the opener, then took the nightcap, 6-4.

The twin wins evened Jefferson's record in the Mississippi Valley Conference at 6-6. The J-Hawks are 7-13 overall.

J-Hawks pound Lions in twinbill

Cedar Rapids Jefferson scored early and often in a doubleheader drubbing of Linn-Mar on Thursday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball matchup at the Linn-Mar field.

Kenna Fry hit two home runs in the first game and Hannah McInerney matched that effort, one being a grand slam, in the nightcap as the fifth-ranked J-Hawks swept, 14-2 and 14-4.

“She can never let me be the star,” joked Fry, who had five hits and four RBIs as part of Jefferson's 33-hit barrage.

“I’m really OK with her being the star,” countered McInerney. “I’m pretty proud of everybody tonight.”

J-Hawks sweep previously unbeaten Rams

DUBUQUE -- Jefferson’s senior dominated lineup led the way as the fifth ranked J-Hawks knocked No. 10 Dubuque Senior from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 2-1, 9-3 doubleheader sweep Tuesday night.

Senior Hannah Petersen struck out 10 and scattered four hits in the opener. Nearly 75 percent of her pitches were strikes.

Seniors Rachel Sedlacek and Kenna Fry each scored in the J-Hawk fifth with Fry also knocking in a key run.

J-Hawks stumble against DM East

For four innings Tuesday night, Jefferson continued to look like a reborn baseball team.

Then came the fifth frame.

Des Moines East scored five runs in the fifth, added three more in the sixth and crushed the J-Hawks, 11-3, at the Jefferson diamond.

J-Hawks sweep Wahawks in softball

WATERLOO -- Solid pitching and defense led Jefferson to a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo West Monday night in Waterloo.

Hannah Petersen struck out 10 and scattered three hits in the opener.  Hannah McInerney turned a popped up bunt into a double play in the fifth to erase West’s only real threat.

Rachel Sedlacek had 3 hits and two RBIs to lead the J-Hawk attack.
